Chinese Dove Tree (Scientific Latin Name: Davidia involucrata Baill) is a deciduous arbor, 15–25m high and has wide ovoid leaves with jagged edges. There are only one genus and two species in this family, both of which are similar except that one has a hairy leaf and the other is a glossy leaf. Its flowers are especially beautiful. It's a relict from the Cenozoic Tertiary Period 10 million years ago.In the Quaternary Glacial Period, Davidia involucrata became extinct in most areas, and only in some areas of southern China, it survived and became the "living fossil" of the plant kingdom, known as the "Chinese Dove Tree", "Dove Flower Tree" and "Water Pear Tree".The wild species only grows in Sichuan Province in southwest Chinaand the surrounding areas of Hubei Province and Shaanxi Province in central China.
