"四脚蛇"俗称蜥蜴和中华石龙子，属蜥蜴科，因为它有"蛇"字，许多人怕被它咬后中毒。其实，四脚蛇既不是蛇，也不会咬人。四脚蛇全长约20余厘米，尾极长，约占全长的2/3。全体披有鳞片，吻钝圆，吻长为眼径的1.5倍;鼻孔在鼻鳞的中央;鼻鳞、吻鳞、第1枚上唇鳞之间各介有 2~3枚小鳞;头部鳞大小不等，均具棱;有鼓膜，鼓膜处覆有小鳞;眼睑发达，能动，瞳孔圆形。背鳞及体侧的鳞较小;背中央有鬣鳞，愈向后愈小，至尾部消失;其两外侧各有1行棱鳞。

The “four-legged snake” is commonly known as the lizard and Chinese Skink, belonging to the family Lizard. Because it has the word “snake” in its name, many people are afraid of being poisoned after being bitten by it. Actually, the “four-legged snake” is neither a snake nor does it bite humans. It is about 20 cm long, with a very long tail accounting for about 2/3 of its total length. The whole body is covered with scales. It has an obtuse round snout of 1.5 times the eye diameter, with its nostrils in the center of the nasal scales. There are 2-3 small scales between the nasal scales, the snout scales and the first upper lip scales. Its head scales vary in size, all ribbed. Its tympanic membrane is covered with small scales. Developed eyelids can move, and the pupils are round. Its dorsal scales and lateral scales are smaller, and the center dorsal iguana scales become smaller near the back and disappear at the tail. It has a row of keeled scales on each side.
